In the beauty industry, we often hear of this word infusion. Infusion can be used to describe ingredients in a product, as well as a treatment where products are infused into the skin.

A close up of some purple flowers on a tableWhen choosing skincare products (especially organic ones) you’ll come across infusion as a way the brand imparts herbs and botanicals into a product in a natural way; rather than using a synthetic version of a plant or oil. Herbal Infusion is a liquid mixture that derives from plants. Infusion refers to the process of placing beneficial plants into a solvent for a given period of time to extract the useful elements, so they can, in turn, be used in products. The organic oils made from the seed, nuts, or kernels of plants, are filled with essential fatty acids which easily penetrate the skin, facilitating the absorption of essential oils and herbal extracts when mixed into any product. Some of the top plants and oils infused into skincare products are Green Tea, Dandelion Root and Red Clover.

The components of this popular flower also acts as an anti-inflammatory. Dandelion Root is another anti-inflammatory as well as an antipruritic (anti-itching). It has also been proven to help prevent sun damage. Green Tea is the superstar of the bunch. Its molecular makeup treats oily skin, clears clogged pores, reduces puffiness and redness, and protects skin from the sun. One of the standout essential oils that many aestheticians swear by is Frankincense. A group of products that are on the table. This miracle oil is great for oily skin and acne because it’s a natural astringent. It helps regulate sebum, stopping your face looking like a greasy mess by removing the excess oil. Frankincense will soothe and reduce inflammation as well as help prevent acne thanks to the boswellic acids it contains which can kill bacteria associated with acne.
